The Next Steps in KKR’s Strategy for the New Green Revolution

August 16, 2010 · Posted in Business News

Kravis Kohlberg Roberts & Co is one of the leading private equity firms in the United States, with global operations that definitely extend outside American soil in many ways. However, the current focus of KKR is the Green Portfolio Program, a plan that helps companies reduce usage and their overall environmental footprint. With Ken Mehlman serving as the Chairman of the Global Public Affairs department, it’s looking like he will also be key in the steps the company takes next with the Green Portfolio Program.

Even though Mehlman’s primary focus will be spreading the word about the Green Portfolio Program and highlighting results, his actions can be seen as part of the greater strategy that KKR will be unfolding as time passes.

Investors looking at jumping in headfirst to the trend of the green business revolution would also do well to pay attention to what Ken Mehlman does in the corporate eye of the public, as it will give indications of where to invest next. For example, when the company announces they are partnering with another company as part of the Green Portfolio Program, it’s not a bad idea to check into that company and weigh the pros and cons of investing in their stock. For a public company, getting background data on them is no problem. Due diligence is still applicable in this situation, so you must be cautious in your investments.

However, Ken Mehlman is just part of the overall strategy that KKR will implement as part of the green business revolution. The focus will be more or less towards bringing in as many companies as possible without sacrificing quality of service. While nothing has been announced in this direction, a possible move that the company could go is towards green businesses in emerging markets. Will they? Only time will tell!
